Although Zhou Yu felt that Zhuge Liang along with Shu-Han will be a future threat to Eastern Wu, he decided to form alliance for the time being with Shu-Han to resist the invasion by Cao Cao. The battle took place in a pass on the Yangtze River called Chi Bi, AKA Red Cliffs.<br/><br/>John Woo did a fantastic job in portraying the characters in the book of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, all the actors and actresses are the best in the contemporary Chinese cinematographic circle, the battle scenes are great, and this movie is the highest budge film in the Chinese film industry to date. It is a MUST see if you are interested in the Chinese history.
Epic. The most expensive film made in China. Veteran director John Woo taps Tony Leung Chiu Wai (Lust, Caution; Infernal Affairs) to lead a film about a battle that occurred in the 2nd Century. He is ably supported by Wei Zhao (So Close) and Jun Hu (Infernal Affairs II), both of whom will be in the forthcoming remake of Mulan.<br/><br/>There will be blood, lots of it,the film is wall to wall action.<br/><br/>It goes without saying that a film suchthis will feature outstanding cinematography, sets and music, but I will say it anyway.<br/><br/>A motley crew of 30,000 takes on a mighty army of 800.000. A small number of ships against a mighty armada. The battles were massive and exciting. The love of one woman inspired both sides.<br/><br/>John Woo has created a stirring film for the ages.
For all his brilliance with choreography, Woo is flummoxed by the thousands of actual human extras, though there’s no denying his commitment to the finer points of battle tactics (yawn).
The original Hong Kong Version of the first movie runs approx. 145 minutes, the complete International Version 143 minutes. One can do the math. Approx. 50 percent of each movie were cut out.
